Do Your Part to Keep Mansfield Litter Free:
Join the Mansfield Litter Busters!
Are you bothered by the sight of plastic water bottles, soda cans, plastic bags, or beer bottles along the side of the road? Do you wonder why some people think it’s acceptable to drop trash out of their car window? Do you wish there was something you could do about it?
By signing up to become a Mansfield Litter Buster, you can be part of the solution and keep your corner of town litter free. Here’s how the program works.
Send us an email and let us know what road (or section of road) or park you would like to adopt. Then simply go out and collect any litter that accumulates on your route. You can sign up yourself, your family, or your business. All we ask is that you agree to clean up your adopted route at least once every four to six weeks (or more often if you are so inclined!) We’ll help you by providing plastic bags if you need them.
The following routes are up for adoption:
- Spring Street
- County Street
- Copeland Drive
- School Street
- North Main Street
Here are a few things to keep in mind when collecting litter:
- Wear bright-colored clothing so that you are easily visible to passing motorists
- Don’t attempt to pick up any hazardous materials
- Wear gloves
- Clean one side of the road first and then cross over to clean the opposite side. Do not wander back and forth across roads. Stay off the road whenever possible.
- Do not attempt to move items that are especially large or heavy. Instead, email us and we’ll coordinate with the DPW to have the item removed.
